Our project für the transformation of a shopping centre in Hamburg is seeking to demonstrate how minimal means can have maximum impact on changing large structures, avoiding demolition and instead adding improvements with soft measures. An additional green layer with planting is protecting the facade, prevents overheating and adds to the cities habitat and environment with a complete change of the concrete facades, while the inner face of the wall will be insulated.
All entrances around the shopping centres have been redesigned to allow them stimulating the public realm with more connections between outside and inside, but also adding orientation, identity and safety, both to the shopping and the housing entrances and facades. Together with arbos landscape we made connections between the building’s outer appearance and the transformation of the surrounding landscape, adding tress and places to rest – a concept which we have also folded inside to make inner street of the mall green and pleasant.
