The design transforms an existing cottage with constrained rooms and low ceilings into a generous house for various ways of living. Despite its compact size the house becomes very large with its centre formed by a spacious hall which connects all surrounding rooms on the Ground Floor and two flexible rooms under the attic on the 1st floor. The barn-like central space offers multiple ways for use, including areas for living, dining, a fire place, semi-connected niches like kitchen and entrance, deep views across into the countryside or under the roof. A wintergarden provides different modes of seasonal use. It is embedded into a long veranda with its canopy sheltering the entrance and terraces. The house will be brought to new energy standards using local fibre insulation, timber and recycled materials, complemented with renewable energies.
