Galerie Campaña

Extension and conversion of a gallery in central Berlin
Client: Private
Area: 450 sqm
1st section completed, 2nd section beginning of 2018
In collaboration with Frank Joachim Wössner

The project comprises the reconfiguration, renovation and extension of the contemporary art gallery ‘Luis Campaña’ in central Berlin. Several interventions optimise the layout of the gallery and provide additional exhibition, office and storage spaces. Together with two former sheds around the courtyard of this city block, the new plan extends the gallery to a generous and varied sequence of four gallery spaces spanning from the street to a large industrial hall at the back. With the first one of these new galleries completed and the next ones following shortly, this enfilade of differently proportioned long, tall and wide rooms will be reinforced with a new facade on the main road. A simple yet powerful composition of large windows with ceramic frames and reveals both sides of a central column, it allows views deep into the gallery and stimulates with its reflective surfaces the interaction between the exhibits inside and the public space outside.
