Competition for a field chapel
Attaching near Munich.
In collaboration with Dominik Fiederling
With its location beside a simple country road amidst the rural fields of the Bavarian landscape the design is based on one of the oldest typologies for scared buildings, the field chapel. The footprint of the building follows the road with a polygonal shape and provides a simple and generous east-facing prayer room. The large space allows many people to gather in this room and is subty differentiated by a complex roof ribbed structure into the traditional typologies of narthex, nave and choir. The construction is intended to be carried out by local craftsmen to fabricate the timber shuttering of the concrete formwork.
